The Missouri State Fair - An Unforseen Opportunity

Department of Labor The Missouri State Fair is one of Missouri’s longest running traditions. It is a yearly highlight for many from across the state. You may not realize that the State Fair can be a gauge measuring the strength of Missouri’s economy. The 2009 State Fair boasted an increase in attendance of 8% from the previous year, despite the recession. Hopes were even higher for this year’s attendance.

Not only does the fair boost the local economy as more than 300,000 come from all over to partake in the festivities, it also supplements small business revenue all across the state. The fair provides the opportunity for entrepreneurs of all shapes and sizes to promote themselves to a large market by becoming a Missouri State Fair exhibitor or sponsor.

The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations sponsored two nights of races, and had a booth outside the Pepsi Grandstand. The booth featured a cutout of Carl Edwards to pose for photos with, the chance to enter a raffle to win autographed Edwards items, brochures on safety and the Department, and small items for giveaways. The booth was set up on Aug. 17 and 22, and enjoyed steady traffic from fair-goers.
