Department Creates Temporary Online Tool to Assist Claimants
Many Unemployment Insurance (UI) claimants had questions about the effects of the recent passage of the federal bill that extends the deadlines for unemployment benefits previously established by the U.S. Congress. To help provide information about the best way to get information, the Department created a temporary three-step process for claimants to help them determine whether or not they need to make contact with the department to establish benefits, to alleviate the strain on the phone lines.
“It is important for claimants to know we are working diligently to take their calls and process their claims,” says Department Director Larry Rebman. “We felt this application was a successful endeavor as it helped our office communicate with thousands of people and prevented thousands of unnecessary phone calls to our office.”
More than 7,400 claimants were emailed information about their claim and instructions on how to proceed in filing for the extensions.
