No Minimum Wage Increase for Missouri in January 2010
Due to a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), the state’s minimum wage rate will not increase on Jan. 1, 2010, but will remain at $7.25. On Sept. 30 of each year, the Missouri Labor Department Director is required to adjust Missouri’s minimum wage amount based on changes to the CPI. An increase in the CPI would have resulted in an increase in the minimum wage rate. However, a decrease in the CPI will not cause the state’s minimum wage rate to decrease because the state rate cannot be lower than the federal minimum wage amount. On July 24, 2009, Missouri’s minimum wage rate increased by 20 cents from $7.05 per hour to $7.25 per hour.
