The Missouri On-Site Safety and Health Consultation Program is a confidential, no-charge service to assist small employers throughout the state of Missouri in reducing injuries and illnesses without penalty. The program provides assistance to small employers in complying with federal Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) regulations and assistance in developing a comprehensive safety and health management program.
Upon request from an employer, trained industrial hygienists and safety consultants visit the workplace, inform and educate the employer on hazards identified and make recommendations for elimination of those hazards. This service is provided for free to Missouri small businesses who request it, including any necessary chemical or noise sampling. It is funded 90 percent by the federal Department of Labor and 10 percent by the state of Missouri. Employers are responsible for costs involved in correcting hazards identified during the visit.
Qualifications for this Service include:
- Businesses must be located in the state of Missouri. (See the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) website for other state consultation project contacts.)
- Businesses must have 250 or fewer employees at any one site and fewer than 500 employees total. (Services to employers above this size range will often be limited in scope but are allowed as resources permit).

An on-site consultation may include, but is not limited to the following:
- Review of an employer's written site-specific safety and health programs
- Review of an employer's written safety and health management program
- Review of an employer's OSHA 300 logs for injury and illness trends
- Exposure monitoring for physical and chemical hazards including fumes, dusts, mists, vapors and noise
- Identification of hazards in the workplace and a timetable to eliminate those hazards
- Work with employers whose type of business has been targeted for inspections by one of the OSHA Initiatives.
