About Labor Standards

The Division of Labor Standards consists of three sections: Wage and Hour, On-Site Safety and Health Consultation Program, and Mine and Cave Safety. The Division determines and enforces the Prevailing Wage, and administers and enforces Missouri’s Child Labor Law and Minimum Wage Law. The Division offers a free consultation service to employers to ensure they comply with federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and inspects mine and cave sites, trains miners in the practice of implementing safe and healthy working habits.

About the Director

John E. Lindsey, Director of the Division of Labor StandardsJohn E. Lindsey was appointed to serve as the Division of Labor Standards Director of the Missouri Department of Labor in 2013. In 1970, Mr. Lindsey entered the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 513 Apprenticeship. Lindsey began working in the St. Louis area, and remained there until 1978. He then worked 10 years at the Callaway Nuclear Facility as a crane operator and general foreman. He became a Business Representative for the IUOE 513 in 1991 and also served as conductor, treasurer, and financial secretary for the IUOE 513 before retiring in September 2011. During that time, Lindsey was also elected as President of the Northeast Missouri Building Trades, Secretary to Central Missouri Building Trades, and several other Trade Coalitions.
