Statistical data on nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses in Missouri are obtained from the annual Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII). The SOII is an annual survey administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, in collaboration with the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations’ Research and Analysis Section. Nonfatal occupational injury and illness data are solicited from a random sample of Missouri employers each year. The SOII data are solicited from employers with 11 or more employees in Agricultural production and from all employers in other industries.
Private Industry
Missouri private industry data indicate that there were a total of 49,300 nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses with an incidence rate of 2.4 (per 100 full-time workers). The most serious cases, involving days away from work, job transfer, or restriction (commonly referred to as DART cases), totaled 26,200 cases with an incidence rate of 1.3.
In 2024, private industry workplace illnesses accounted for 2,700 of the total cases, with an incidence rate of 13.6 (per 10,000 full-time workers).
The most serious nonfatal occupational injury and illness cases involve employees who lost days away from work, totaling 13,100 cases with an incidence rate of 0.6 (per 100 full—time workers).
Industry Summary
The private industry group with the most nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses was the Service Providing sector, with a total of 36,900 cases. Within the Service Providing sectors, the Trade, Transportation and Utilities had no comparison with approximately 14,300 reported cases.
