Service Employees International Union, Local 96, AFL-CIO v.
City of Blue Springs, Missouri

SEIU filed a petition for all Service and Maintenance personnel employed by the City of Blue Springs. The City objected to the exclusion of all office employees. They contended that office workers share a community of interest with Maintenance Workers and should be included. The Board concluded that the Clerical Workers did not belong in the same unit as the Service and Maintenance employees. The Board noted the lack of common supervision and the absence of significant contact between the Office Workers and the Maintenance employees. Furthermore, the type of work done by the two (2) groups differed significantly.
