Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations Director Elected President of National Association of State Workforce Agencies

Jefferson City, MO - Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DOLIR) Director Anna Hui was elected President of the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) at their September meeting in Boston.

“Director Hui’s election elevates the state of Missouri to a national stage where not only Missouri’s workforce policies and practices are showcased but also the exemplary leadership found in our state,” said Labor and Industrial Relations Chair Robert Cornejo. “Participation in leadership roles in organizations like NASWA allows our own leaders to engage with others to bring best practices and forward-thinking to Missouri to help businesses grow and workers succeed.”

NASWA is a national organization representing all 50 state workforce agencies, D.C. and U.S. territories. NASWA’s member agencies deliver training, employment, career and business services, in addition to administering the unemployment insurance, veteran reemployment and labor market information programs. NASWA provides policy expertise, shares promising state practices and promotes state innovation and leadership in workforce development.

Hui was appointed Director of DOLIR in March of 2017 and was confirmed by the Senate in January 2018, making her the first Asian American to serve in the governor’s cabinet in Missouri history. For over two decades, Hui has worked in numerous senior positions in both state and federal government. She also currently serves as President of the National Association of Government Labor Officials. Hui received a J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, a M.S.M. and a M.B.A. from the University of Maryland University College and B.S. in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
