JEFFERSON CITY, MO - The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations’ Division of Employment Security (DES) has joined a multi-state data analysis project to prevent unemployment insurance (UI) fraud and address identify theft. The Suspicious Actor Repository (SAR) allows Missouri to cross-match UI claims against a larger database of information and identify potentially fraudulent activity for further investigation.
This new weapon against potentially fraudulent activity will allow DES staff to pinpoint more likely threats.
“The Suspicious Actor Repository is another tool to safeguard citizens against identity theft and fraud, and to protect the UI funds entrusted to us by Missouri businesses,” says DES Director Chris Slinkard.
The awareness of fraud and identity theft trends across multiple states will also provide Missouri with the knowledge to better safeguard its UI fund through internal operation enhancements.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, SAR was developed through the UI Integrity Center, a joint federal and state initiative operated by the National Association of State Workforce Agencies. The Center’s mission is to be a hub of innovation for UI programs, focusing particularly on the prevention, detection and recovery of improper payments.
