JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Nasreen Esmail, Missouri Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) Chief Legal Counsel/Deputy Division Director, will be honored as a 2019 Missouri Lawyers Media Women’s Justice Award recipient on Thursday, April 25 at The Four Seasons Hotel in St. Louis. The award recognizes women in public service who have demonstrated leadership, integrity, service, sacrifice and accomplishment in improving the quality of justice and exemplifying the highest ideals of the legal profession. Since 1999, the Women’s Justice Awards have celebrated extraordinary women lawyers, law students, rising stars, public officials and others in recognition of the standards of professional excellence they’ve set for their peers.

Nasreen has worked for DWC since December 1996. She started as a Mediator, then was promoted to a Staff Attorney. In January 2001, Nasreen was appointed Chief Legal Counsel. Since 2017, Nasreen has been serving as Deputy Division Director in addition to serving as Chief Legal Counsel. “After completing my judicial clerkships, I started out as a Public Defender and I have continued my professional career in Public Service ever since. I love that my role allows for outreach and education to the community and that gives me a sense of fulfillment,” said Esmail.

“DWC is fortunate to have Nasreen as its staunchest defender. We have benefitted from her intelligence, good counsel, institutional wisdom and loyalty,” said Colleen Joern Vetter, DWC Division Director. “For many years, the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations has valued the dedicated public service of Nasreen Esmail and continue to count on her as a member of our leadership team. Congratulations to Nasreen on this significant recognition as an extraordinary woman in the legal profession,” remarked Anna Hui, Department Director.
