Overview

Missouri law allows spouses of active or reserve military personnel to be eligible for unemployment insurance benefits if leaving their job to relocate with their spouse.

How to File

Process

  • File claim: Visit uinteract.labor.mo.gov to file a Missouri unemployment claim. When filing online, select Quit as the reason for separation from your employer.
  • Register with job center: Register with a job center in the state you are looking for work or will be living to find current job openings, career workshops and other educational or training opportunities. (You are exempt if you move outside the United States.)
  • Search for work: Even if you are moving, you must continue to look for work unless directed to do otherwise, you are required to make at least three work search activities each week to remain eligible for benefits.
  • File weekly request: File your weekly request for payment each week you are unemployed. You can file online at uinteract.labor.mo.gov.
  • Update address: If you move during this process, update your address by visiting uinteract.labor.mo.gov. You will not receive notices or important documents if your contact information is not current.
  • Beginning work: If you begin to work full time, stop filing for benefits. You may still be eligible for benefits if you begin a part-time job, however, you must report all wages the week you earn them.

Notes

  • You should file in the state you last worked to determine your eligibility for unemployment benefits.
  • If you are a federal employee and your military spouse is transferred out of the country, you must file your initial claim for benefits before you leave the United States. Your weekly request for payment can be filed from any geographical location.
