Meet the Missouri Commission on Human Rights

The basic powers and duties of the Commission are to eliminate discrimination through the enforcement of the Missouri Human Rights Act and prevent social inequality through education and outreach. The Missouri Commission on Human Rights is authorized to investigate complaints of alleged discrimination in employment, public accommodations, and housing based on race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, disability, age (40 – 69) (in employment only), and familial status (families with children under the age of 18) (in housing only).

The Missouri Commission on Human Rights consists of eleven members appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the senate, with no fewer than one from each of the congressional districts of the state, serving for a term of six years without compensation. One of the members is appointed chairperson by the governor, and no more than six members at any one time may be members of the same political party.
